Departmental Honors Program
Outstanding students in any of the departmental degree programs are urged to fulfill the requirements for an honors degree. Since independent research is an integral part of the Department of Biology honors program, students must enroll in at least two semesters of L490 Individual Study. (In some limited circumstances MSCI-M 450 and CHEM-C 409 may count in place of L490 credit.) The Undergraduate Advising Office should be consulted for other requirements, but in general, students completing course work with a minimum grade point average of 3.300, a senior thesis, and at least 6 credit hours of BIOL L490 over a minimum of at least 2 semesters or a semester and one full summer will be awarded a degree with honors. Honors students are urged to enroll in special honors courses and seminars offered by many departments in the College of Arts and Sciences.
