Elementary Programs
Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Education
The IU Bloomington School of Education offers a Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Education. The Elementary Education program provides coursework and field experiences to prepare future teachers to meet the needs of students in today's schools. The program is designed to prepare teacher education candidates to teach children in K-6th grade.
Elementary Education candidates are generalists. They take a variety of content courses, professional foundation courses, and methods courses to meet the content areas taught in the elementary schools.

Choose ONE subject area to study in depth as an Area of Concentration, Academic Minor or License Addition. Courses completed in the Content Area or Professional Education can double count in the Area of Concentration, Academic Minor or License Addition. A grade of “C” or higher is required in each Area of Concentration or License Addition course. You must maintain a 2.5 GPA in the area you select. (Exception: Academic Minors require a 2.0 GPA.)

A student may choose to complete one of the License Additions listed below. License Additions are between 15 and 32 credits of coursework. A License Addition will require the completion of more than 120 credits for the program, and a minimum 2.5 overall GPA and a C or higher grade in each class.

Academic Minors
Minors are between 15 and 21 credits of coursework. The minor will require the completion of more than 120 credits for the program. A 2.0 overall GPA and a C- or higher grade in each class is required (exception: School of Education minors require a C or higher grade).
