Minor in Hebrew
Purpose

The minor in Hebrew provides students with intensive Hebrew language proficiency.

Requirements

Students must complete at least 15 credit hours in the minor, including the following:

  1. Complete either the Modern Hebrew (JSTU-H courses) or the Biblical Hebrew (JSTU-B courses) track:
    1. Modern Hebrew Track: 
      • Completion of JSTU-H 200, JSTU-H 250, JSTU-H 300, and JSTU-H 350 with a grade of C or higher, or equivalent.
      • At least one additional course at the 300-400 level in Hebrew language or in Hebrew literature in English.
    2. Biblical Hebrew Track: 
      • Completion of JSTU-B 200, JSTU-B 250, JSTU-H 300, and JSTU-H 350 with a grade of C or higher, or equivalent.
      • At least one additional course at the 300-400 level on rabbinic and Biblical literature.
  2. Complete at least 9 credit hours of coursework in the minor on the Bloomington campus.

Additional notes:

  • The three courses at the 300-400 level cannot be counted toward either the Jewish Studies major or the certificate in Jewish Studies.
  • A student who earns a major in Hebrew through the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures may not also earn a minor in Hebrew.
  • In fulfilling the above requirements, students must also meet all other College requirements for minors.
