Academic Advising

At the School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B), academic advising is an essential part of the college experience. SPH-B advisors are here to support students' academic journeys, help them make informed decisions, and guide their course planning to ensure they stay on track for graduation and future goals. To promote success, all SPH-B students are required to meet with their assigned academic advisor each semester before registering for classes. These meetings provide an opportunity to:

  • Connect students with appropriate campus resources
  • Consider education abroad experiences
  • Discuss co-curricular opportunities
  • Evaluate pre-professional pathways
  • Explore additional academic credentials, such as minors, certificates, or second degrees
  • Facilitate the process for research and field experiences, internships, and practica
  • Investigate course options
  • Plan for the upcoming term
  • Review academic progress

While advisors are here to guide and support, SPH-B students are ultimately responsible for understanding and fulfilling the requirements of their degree programs. Staying connected with SPH-B advisors will help ensure students are on the path to academic success.

Email is the official form of communication at Indiana University. SPH-B advisors will contact students through their IU email. It is the student’s responsibility to read and respond appropriately in a timely manner. Students should check their IU email multiple times a day and carefully read all official communications.
