Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance

B.F.A. in Dance
Purpose

This program is designed to train exceptional students who seek a professional career in dance within the context of an outstanding liberal arts education offered by Indiana University. Admission to the B.F.A. program is by audition, typically prior to the beginning of the freshman year.

Required Courses

1.   Students must complete the B.A. degree requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences and Indiana University's General Education Requirements for the Bloomington campus. These include:

  • English composition: ENG-W 131 or equivalent (3 cr.).
  • Mathematical modeling, MATH-M 118 or equivalent, counts as one CASE N&M (3 cr.).
  • One Public Oral Communication (CASE POC) course, COLL-P 155 (3 cr.).
  • One Intensive Writing course (3 cr.).
  • Foreign language: second-year, second-semester proficiency, covers General Education's World Languages and Cultures requirement.
  • Two culture studies courses: one CASE DUS course; one CASE GCC course (6 cr.).
  • One Critical Approaches course: COLL-C 104 (CASE S&H) or COLL-C 105 (CASE N&M) are recommended. (3 cr.)
  • Arts and Humanities (A&H): 4 courses—2 General Education A&H; 2 CASE A&H (12 cr.).
  • Social and Historical Studies (S&H): 4 courses—2 General Education S&H; 2 CASE S&H (12 cr.).
  • Natural and Mathematical Science (N&M): must include at least one Natural Science course in fulfillment of the General Education curriculum. At least 3 courses 1–2 General Education N&M; 2 CASE N&M (11–12 cr.).
