About the Division of Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Health Sciences is a versatile degree that provides students with extensive preparation for work in any field that addresses people’s health. The objective of this program is to address the needs of those students seeking a broad understanding of the science of human health and its application to their chosen career. It is housed in the Vera Z. Dwyer College of Health Sciences, School of Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University South Bend. The degree will be delivered via traditional classroom and online format, include internships with local health agencies, and culminate in a seminar experience.


Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Health Sciences is to improve the health and well-being of those we serve through high quality education, scholarship, and service. Our graduates will exemplify ethical and professional behavior, critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and community engagement.


Program Goals

At the completion of the health sciences program students will be able to:

  • Connect professional standards of conduct to ethical behavior and personal growth
  • Integrate theory guided, evidence-based health care practices for optimum health outcomes
  • Synthesize the principles of prevention, assessment, intervention, evaluation related to the health of the community at the local, regional, and/or global levels
  • Assimilate components of health literacy to improve the health and well-being of the populations we serve
