Student Learning Outcomes
Schools and departments at IU Indianapolis have developed student learning outcomes for their student learning experiences. Student learning outcomes are statements that specify what students will know, be able to do, or be able to demonstrate as a result of successful completion of the experience. Outcomes are usually expressed as knowledge, skills, attitudes, or values. They are often used as foundations for student assessments.

Job Placement
According to the most recent master’s student alumni report, nearly 90% of alumni reported full-time employment, with the most prominent places of employment reported as educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and large corporations.
A survey of recent graduates with research doctorates (Ph.D.) indicated just over 50% would seek a postdoctoral fellowship or research associate position, with the remaining graduates focused on employment. Among those with or seeking employment, nearly 50% were looking at careers in business or industry while others pursued positions in academia, non-profit sector, and government.
Professional Development Opportunities
Graduate students are given the opportunity to participate in professional/career development opportunities such as Preparing Future Faculty and Professionals (PFFP) which engages current IU Indianapolis graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a full range of career options, responsibilities, and mentoring for careers in academia or industry through year-round programming. PFFP includes numerous workshops/events, networking opportunities, and co-programming with the IU Indianapolis Graduate Mentoring Center. The campus career services office along with school career counselors, provides guidance on employment and offers students access to recruiters from Marion County, the state and nation. The Center for Teaching and Learning through their Emerging Scholars program and Center for the Integration for Reseach Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) provide graduate students with resources and workshops to improve teaching and instructional skills.
