Certificate in Community and Organizational Leadership Studies
The certificate in Community and Organizational Leadership Studies (COLS) provides students with leadership skills necessary to affect positive change in community, nonprofit, or public sectors.
Admission to the certificate program in community and organizational leadership studies requires the following: Admission to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (if not pursuing another degree program, see bulletin for admission requirements) OR current enrollment in any IU Indianapolis undergraduate degree program.
The certificate in COLS requires satisfactory completion of the following: Student must complete a total of 18 credit hours, with at least a 2.0 GPA in all required coursework toward the certificate. At least 9 credit hours must be taken on the IU Indianapolis campus. Transfer credit, including eligible leadership credit for prior learning (military transcripts, industry certifications) may be used to fulfill up to 6 of the 18 credit hours. During their final term of enrollment, students must also apply to have the minor conferred with their degree by completing the O'Neill Graduation Application.

- A maximum of 6 hours of credit from another institution may be applied toward this certificate. Credit work for this certificate may be taken on any campus of Indiana University.
- The O'Neill double counting policy allows O'Neill students to double count courses between any combination of O'Neill majors, minors, and certificates.
- O'Neill students cannot earn a certificate in the same area as their major/concentration.
- Students must apply for graduation, during the last semester of certificate coursework, to be awarded the certificate.
- In order for the certificate to be awarded, the student must be in good academic standing. O'Neill Good Standing requires:a cumulative 2.0 GPA.
