Orientation

To ensure a smooth transition to IU Indianapolis, all new and transfer students are expected to attend and participate in the student orientation program. There are two programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students.

The first program is designed for first-year students with 18 or fewer transfer hours. During this one-day orientation, students receive a comprehensive overview of the campus community, learn about available resources, gain insights into their chosen school or program, and receive guidance from current IU Indianapolis students. In addition, students have an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, and get their student ID card, also known as the CrimsonCard.

The second program is specifically crafted to meet the unique needs of those transferring in with more than 18 credit hours, adult students, and veterans. This orientation includes essential components about to learn about the IU Indianapolis community, meet with an academic school and advisor, register for classes, learn about university technology, participate in a campus tour, and get the CrimsonCard.

Before attending orientation, students should complete any necessary placement tests and the Jag Launch online modules. It is also important to set up a technology account as outlined in the admissions materials. The new student fee is applicable to all students starting their first semester as a degree-seeking student, regardless of orientation participation.

Reservations are required to make the most of the student orientation experience. To learn more and to schedule an orientation session, visit go.iu.edu/orientation or contact us at (317) 274-4240.
