Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

Upon completion of this degree,

  1. Students will master the sociological analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Students will also gain proficiency in qualitative and quantitative sociological research methods..
  2. Students will internalize the "sociological imagination" to inform creative critical thinking on sociological matters. Students will effectively communicate their sociological insights verbally and in writing.
  3. Students will apply sociological theories and principles to heighten their understanding of society and themselves.
  4. Students will understand basic sociological concepts and their fundamental theoretical interrelations. For example, students will be able to define, give examples, show interrelationships, and demonstrate the relevance of culture, social change, socialization, stratification, social structure, institutions, social differentiation, globalization, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, and class.
  5. Students will appreciate ethical leadership through the examination of responsible citizenship and social justice.

 

This degree program also includes two concentrations: Criminology and Medical Sociology.
