As members of the Kelley School of Business Undergraduate community, all students, faculty, and staff associated with the program are asked to commit to pursuing an ideal academic environment, holding personal integrity and honesty in the highest regard.

Scope

Because the Kelley Honor Code is an expression of our collective academic values, it applies to all students enrolled in business courses (regardless of their academic track or declared major), as well as the faculty and staff who work to deliver them. Students admitted to the Kelley School of Business become representatives of the school, and as such are expected to continue their commitment to ethical behavior in all of their endeavors, including, but not limited to, course work outside Kelley, internships, co-curricular programs, overseas study, and in all engagement with the broader local and global community. The Honor Code covers all aspects of a student's academic work.  

Academic Conduct

All students enrolled in Kelley courses are subject to the academic misconduct guidelines found in the IU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct:

Academic misconduct is defined as any activity that tends to undermine the academic integrity of the institution. The university may discipline a student for academic misconduct. Academic misconduct may involve human, hard-copy, or electronic resources.

The IU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct lists and defines multiple aspects of academic misconduct, including cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, interference, violation of course rules, and facilitating academic dishonesty. 

Professional Conduct

Members of the Kelley academic community shall uphold and exhibit the following conduct expectations:

• Regularly attend and be fully prepared and engaged for all class sessions and scheduled meetings. This includes appointments with faculty or staff, interviews or sessions with recruiters/UCS, team meetings for course assignments, and student leadership/organization events or meetings.
• Address faculty staff, students, and other stakeholders appropriately and with respect, whether in person, in writing, or in electronic communications.
• Show tolerance and respect for all nationalities, religions, races, sexual orientations, and physical abilities.
• Practice respect and responsible stewardship of the physical resources of the school, refraining from destroying or defacing school property, integrating practices of sustainability, and contributing to a clean and orderly physical environment in all buildings, classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces. 
• Strive to live out, wherever possible, the Kelley values of Integrity, Accountability, Perseverance, Appreciation, and Engagement.
• Adhere to the IU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct, including all guidelines on academic misconduct, as well as personal misconduct.
• Follow, where applicable, the stated expectations of various offices and programs within the Kelley School of Business. This includes, but is not limited to, Undergraduate Career Services, International Programs, Honors Program, or any other program area that may have specific stated guidelines for students.

Reporting

Violations of the honor code should be reported by those who have observed the violation or who have knowledge of a violation. Students should not only honor the code themselves, but hold their peers to the same standards. Violations of the honor code should be reported to the IU Office of Student Conduct. In instances of academic misconduct in a course, a report should be made to the instructor of the course. Any complaint that falls outside these IU guidelines can be reported directly to the Chair of the Undergraduate Program. 

Student Disciplinary Procedures

Reports of academic misconduct will follow the IU Academic Misconduct Disciplinary Procedure. Consisting of Kelley students and faculty, the Kelley Academic Fairness Committee serves as the “Unit Hearing Board” as described in the IU Academic Misconduct Disciplinary Procedures.

Reports of personal or professional misconduct will follow the IU Personal Misconduct Disciplinary Procedure.

Returning to Kelley After Suspension or Expulsion

If the sanction for a violation of academic or personal misconduct is expulsion from Indiana University Bloomington, the student will be unable to return to the Kelley School of Business under any circumstance at any time. If the sanction for a violation of academic or personal misconduct is suspension from Indiana University Bloomington, the student may appeal to be reinstated in the Kelley School of Business after they have served their suspension time. However, there is no guarantee students will be readmitted to the Kelley School of Business after a disciplinary suspension.
