Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Public Safety

The M.S.C.J.P.S. is a course of study that requires the completion of (1) the core, (2) the electives, (3) the experiential requirement or mid-career option credit to total 36 credit hours.

EXPERIENTIAL COMPONENT: In order to be awarded the M.S.C.J.P.S. degree, students must obtain professionally relevant experience through an internship in SPEA-J 585.

  • SPEA-J 586         Public Safety in the United States

CHOOSE ONE CAPSTONE OPTION BELOW*:

  • SPEA-J 600         Criminal Justice & Public Safety Policy Evaluation (spring only)         
  • SPEA-J 599         MSCJPS Thesis Option (faculty pre-approval required)       
  • SPEA-V 600        Capstone in Public and Environmental Affairs

*NOTE: J666, J599 or V600 cannot be taken until the V506 and J502 core courses are completed.

Internship and Electives (12 credit hours)

A minimum of 3 credits of internship or mid-career credit are required.  If 6 credits are earned the additional 3 credits are applied to the remaining electives.
