Graduate Record Exam

If you meet the minimum GPA requirements for regular admission we do not require GRE scores. You have met the minimum GPA requirements if any of these statements apply:

  1. You have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2.
  2. You stepped out of school for three years or more and you have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in the courses you completed after returning to school and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8.
  3. You have a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 based on at least 12 graduate credit hours.

If you do not meet one of the grade point average requirements, you do need to provide GRE scores. Scores should be recent and based on exams completed within five years prior to the application. Only the general GRE exam is needed.

Minimum GRE scores for applicants with a low grade point average are 500 Verbal and 4.0 Written Analytical. There is no minimum criterion for the quantitative section.

If you do need to take the GRE, please make sure to do so before Memorial Day for fall applications and before Labor Day for spring applications as it takes approximately three weeks from the date you take the test for scores to reach the adult education department. Visit the GRE web site to find a testing center in your area.

If you have not taken the GRE but have taken a comparable test such as the LSAT, GMAT, or MAT, please contact the department to determine if these scores will be accepted in place of the GRE.
