Counseling Services
The Office of Counseling Services (OCS) provides a range of therapeutic interventions and outside referrals to promote the improved mental health and emotional well-being of students. When students face developmental, personal, academic challenges during their college experience, OCS offers a professional, safe, judgment free, and confidential environment to address emotional problems that might hinder academic progress towards graduation. The office is located in Hawthorn Hall 201/203A. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM.
Individual counseling is provided on a voluntary basis to any enrolled eligible student based upon clinical appropriateness. Students are eligible to use counseling for ten (10) sessions per academic year including the initial session which is considered an intake assessment session. The following concerns are examples of issues addressed through the OCS: depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, family problems, developmental challenges associated with being a young adult.
The Office of Counseling Services incorporates a modality of intervention of psycho educational groups for students. The types of groups offered are based upon trends and needs that are consistent with identified client problems that are suitable to peer support interventions. The attendance and participation in groups is voluntary and groups are offered during the academic year.
