Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Business Analytics
Application requirements: A student must fill out the School of Business graduate application and have at least a completed bachelor’s degree to qualify for the program. Depending on previous coursework the student may need to take the two pre-requisite courses listed below.
To earn the certificate a student must earn a C or better in each of the courses earn a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the certificate program.
Prerequisites:
- BUS-K 321 Management of Information Technology (3 cr.)
- ECON-E 270 Business Statistics (3 cr.)
Required Courses:
- BUKO-K 542: Business Analytics
- Introduction to data driven decision making (10%)
- Types of data and data issues (10%)
- Visualizations and dashboards (40%)
- Intro to predictive analytics (20%)
- Intro to optimization and simulation (20%)
- BUKO-K ###: Topics in Advanced Analytics
- Organizing, storing, and managing data (30%)
- Advanced predictive analytics topics (classification, machine learning, etc - 50%)
- Advanced optimization and simulation topics (20%)
Choose two of the following courses:
At first these would be undergraduate courses that we would strategically cross-list to allow students some choices. Professors would have to show significant analytics or MIS coverage in the courses to have them approved for the certificate. A sub-committee from CMAL will make determinations regarding whether course content is sufficient to be included in the certificate.
Examples could be:
- Accounting Information Systems
- Financial Modeling
- Customer Relationship Management
- Human Resources Information Systems
- Possibly a class from Informatics or Computer Science
