Social Determinants of Health Microcredential
The Social Determinants of Health microcredential from the Fairbanks School of Public Health prepares students to meet the expectations of public health, healthcare, and community-oriented employers by focusing on health equity, health disparities, and the social determinants of health.
This program includes two courses and an experiential component. The introductory course, PBHL-S120 Intro to Community Health, introduces students to living in community from a public health perspective, covering key community topics and theories. The experiential component deepens this learning through reflection and critical thinking, helping students examine personal biases, investigate the impact of various factors on community cohesion, and understand how social status affects marginalized communities.
Eligibility
- To earn the microcredential, students must complete both courses with a passing grade. Students must also complete to a satisfactory level the co-curricular experiential component of PBHL-S120, including the reflective assignment that corresponds with the experiential opportunity.
- Students who successfully complete the requirements for the microcredential will have this credential conferred.
- Students must declare their intention to earn this microcredential before or during their enrollment in PBHL-S120.
