Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) Program

Admission

Application Procedure

Application to the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) is made through the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS), which is administered through the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Applicants are encouraged to apply early (late May/early June) when AADSAS opens; the IUSD deadline for application submission is November 1 of each year. Applicants must also take the Dental Admission Test (DAT), which may be taken before or after submission of the application, at Prometric Candidate Contact Centers located throughout the country. Students should take this test only after completing the required chemistry and biology courses. Details concerning the DAT may be obtained by writing the American Dental Association, 211 E. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60611; or by visiting the ADA Web site.

Applicant interviews are conducted in September, October, November, January, and February. The prescreening process begins following receipt of the AADSAS application, DAT scores, and the IUSD application fee. Applicants are invited for an interview based upon a comprehensive review of the application. Criteria for admissions include, but are not limited to, overall grade point average, science grade point average, DAT scores, interview results, recommendations, hours of college credit, degress received, motivation, exploration of dentistry, manual and artistic skills, character, personality, ethics, and background in volunteerism and community service. Applications from all underrepresented groups are encouraged. Selections are made on an individual basis after review by the Admissions Committee. Applicants are accepted who best demonstrate the academic and personal characteristics for academic success and who best demonstrate the qualities to further the IUSD mission and the dental profession. Applicants are notified of admission no earlier than December 1 of each year.
