The Department of BioHealth Informatics brings together expertise from biological and health sciences, and addresses the strong industrial demand for graduates with expertise in both bio and health informatics as well as health information administration.

The programs within, aim to provide training in technologies across the range of Informatics applied to Bioscience and Healthcare. Skills developed range from the analysis of genotypes and gene expression data to advanced image processing techniques, advanced information management, clinical terminology, and healthcare records.

Bioinformatics encompasses pure and applied science dealing with the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of biological data and knowledge, especially with respect to genetics and molecular biology.

Health Informatics addresses the need for improved classification, storage, and analysis of medical information to establish the best clinical practice and cost efficiency.

The Health Information Administration program combines computing and healthcare management for better patient care. Widespread adoption of new technologies is fueling a critical need for specialized HIA professionals able to manage electronic health records, analyze health information and ensure the privacy and security of patient data.
