Scholarships and Awards

The School of Informatics and Computing offers several scholarships in all degree programs.  Most scholarships are available only to undergraduate students and information on applying can be found on our website.  Financial assistance for master’s students is generally given to a select number of students in the form of a graduate assistantship.

Freshman Scholarships

School of Informatics and Computing Freshman Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen students who graduated in the top 25% of their class and have received a minimum SAT score of 1070 or ACT of 23. Students must plan to enroll in the Informatics or the Media Arts and Science program. This is renewable for up to four years.

The Aspirations in Computing  Freshman Scholarship is awarded to students who won the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing competition and are admitted directly to the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI. This scholarship is available to incoming female freshman for their computing-related achievements and interests. Awardees are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. The scholarship is automatically renewed for up to four years of study with a GPA of 3.2 and continuous full-time enrollment.

Current Student Scholarships

The Health Information Technology Scholarship One award is granted annually to a junior or senior majoring in Informatics, Health Information Administration or Media Arts and Science with an interest in health information technology. The scholarship may be given to a student with a strong affinity for working in a health field, whether through the study of informatics and the health sciences, health information administration, bioinformatics or media arts and science. Preference will be given to a student with a 3.2 GPA who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and a desire to pursue further education beyond their undergraduate degree.

Gertrude L. Gunn Memorial Fund Scholarship Multiple awards are granted to students with junior or senior standing who have been admitted into the Health Information Administration professional program. The student must demonstrate academic excellence, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Students should apply in the spring semester prior to their junior or senior year.

The John R. Gibbs Scholarship/Fellowship for Innovation One award is granted annually either to a full-time undergraduate student or a full-time graduate student currently in the School of Informatics and Computing. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Dean’s Advisory Council Senior Scholarship One award is granted annually to a student of senior standing currently majoring in Informatics or Media Arts and Science. The student must have a record of innovation, community service or academic excellence. The student must also maintain his or her major in Informatics or Media Arts and Science throughout his or her senior year. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.

The Tyler R. Stull Memorial Scholarship One award is granted annually to an undergraduate student of senior standing majoring in Media Arts and Science. The student must demonstrate significant talent and future career potential in the area of graphic or sound design. The recipient will have an excellent record of academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students who are Indiana residents and demonstrate financial need.
