Social Work

Bachelor of Science in Social Work–TSAP

Degree Map

To be eligible for the TSAP, students must have completed an Associate Degree in Human Services from an Indiana state institution Ivy Tech or Vincennes Universit). TSAP students will be certified for the Social Work program allowing them to register for 300– and 400–level Social Work courses with:

  • Admission to Indiana University
  • Satisfactory completion (grade C or higher) of the required course SWK-S 141 (or equivalent)
  • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale

To graduate, students need the following:

  • 120 credit hours including Social Work required and supportive courses as well as remaining required IU South Bend General Education and Fundamental Literacy courses
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5; Social Work GPA of 2.50
  • Students must earn at least a "C" in each Social Work core course

It is suggested students complete COMM 101, BIOL 101, POLS 101, and HIST 102 as part of the IvyTech TSAP agreement to meet the Social Work degree requirements. Check with your Social Work Advisor to determine that courses taken at IvyTech are eligible. Only 60 credits may be transferred in per the TSAP transfer agreement.

  • ENG-W 231 Professional Writing Skills; OR
    SWK-S 204 Writing in Professional Social Work
  • HIST-H 106 American History II
  • POLS-Y 103 Introduction to American Politics
  • 300–level PSY, SOC, or SWK elective
  • Human Biology
  • Take a program support course not previously taken; OR
    3–credit elective
  • 2–credit elective or program support course if not taken in the first two years

The following courses must be taken in the sequence shown:

  • SWK-S 102 Understanding Diversity in a Pluralistic Society
  • SWK-S 331 Generalist Social Work Practice I: Theory and Skill
  • SWK-S 371 Social Work Research

The following courses must be taken in the sequence shown:

  • SWK-S 322 Small Group Theory and Practice
  • SWK-S 332 Generalist Social Work Practice II: Theories and Skills
  • SWK-S 352 Social Welfare Policy and Practice

The following courses must be taken in the sequence shown:

  • SWK-S 423 Organization Theory and Practice
  • SWK-S 442 Integrated Practice–Policy Seminar in Selected Fields of Practice
  • SWK-S 481 Social Work Practicum (6 cr.)

The following courses must be taken in the sequence shown:

  • SWK-S 433 Community Behavior and Practice Within a Generalist Perspective
  • SWK-S 472 Practice Evaluation
  • SWK-S 482 Social Work Practicum
