Overview

The Student Body

IU Southeast is large enough to offer a comprehensive university experience, yet small enough to value individual identity. Most IU Southeast students are from southern Indiana and the metro Louisville area. Most work while going to school, many of them full time. About half receive some kind of help through the Financial Aid Office. While more than half of the student body are ‘‘traditional’’ students who come directly from high school, many others have returned to college after a number of years to upgrade skills, seek enrichment, and prepare for new careers. A reciprocity agreement between Indiana and Kentucky allows Kentucky residents from Jefferson, Meade, Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby, and Trimble counties to attend IU Southeast for in-state tuition rates. While the majority of our student population lives in Southern Indiana, approximately 30% are from our partnering Kentucky counties.  About one-third of our students in both graduate and undergraduate courses are over the age of 25 and are considered adult students.

Our campus offers 108 student organizations which includes eight fraternities and sororities. Last year, IU Southeast student organizations completed over 4,000 hours of community service/volunteer hours in Southern Indiana. We offer seven varsity sports which include Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, Men’s Baseball, Women’s Softball, and Men’s and Women’s Tennis. The average GPA for our student athletes is 3.01.
