General Information
All courses in Kelley Direct are taught online, except for the in-residence courses. There are two in-residence courses in the M.B.A. program and one in-residence course in each M.S. program except for the MS in Strategic Management. Students are expected to be able to access the courses online from their home computer, and students are expected to travel to Indiana in the summer (or in-residence site designated at the time designated) to participate in their respective in-residence sessions. Other than the in-residence courses, all Kelley Direct courses are taught asynchronously by tenured or tenure-track Kelley School of Business faculty from both the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses.
The M.B.A. obtained through Kelley Direct Program consists of 48 credit hours, 9 credits of which are electives. On average, it takes a student two full years to complete the degree.
M.S. degrees obtained through Kelley Direct consist of 30 credit hours. In the M.S. programs, there are between 6 and 15 credits of electives. On average, it takes a student 15 months to complete the degree.
Please see kd.iu.edu for more curriculum information specific to the degree programs offered by Kelley Direct.
A Kelley Direct student is automatically registered in the university system each quarter based on what the student registers for in the Kelley Direct network system and their plan of study. The student's plan of study is determined by the program to which the student is admitted. Any deviation from the program's plan of study needs to be communicated with the Kelley Direct administrative office at least one month before the start of a quarter. Once a quarter has started, students are not allowed to add any courses. When a student's plan of study calls for an elective, a student may review the Kelley Direct Tentative Projected Schedule online for elective availability.
Exemptions from course work may be granted. Professional experience and/or previous Graduate course work can be a basis for a waiver or alteration of required course work.
The exception to this policy are students admitted to joint programs (M.S.F./M.B.A. and M.S.G.S.C.M./M.B.A.) who are exempt from some course work.
Students entering a degree program offered by Kelley Direct Programs are required to fulfill the degree requirements in effect at the time of matriculation. A candidate who completes a degree in any degree-granting program offered by Kelley Direct Programs is conferred either a Master of Business Administration or Master of Science degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
In order to receive the Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business on the Indianapolis campus, candidates must:

Academic Policies and Procedures Governing the Kelley Direct Program
Conditional Admission
On occasion, students may be admitted conditionally to a Kelley Direct Program. When admitted conditionally, students are notified in their letter of admission of the condition(s) they need to satisfy in order to be in good standing with the program. When these conditions are not met within the designated time frame, students may be dismissed from the program.

Minimum GPA, Academic Probation, and Dismissal
Students in Kelley Direct must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. When the cumulative GPA falls below a 2.75, students are placed on Academic Probation. When placed on Academic Probation, students must enroll in at least two out of the next four quarters, including summer quarter, and attain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 within the two quarters. Failure to meet the minimum GPA requirement may result in automatic dismissal from the program. Other conditions for dismissal from the program are:
Students may withdraw from online courses after a quarter has started in the first half of a session with an automatic grade of W. Withdrawals after the first half of the quarter are rarely granted (the student will either receive an F or an I). Any withdrawal after the first week of class is subject to the university's refund schedule.

Maternity/Family Medical Leave
Students may find it necessary to take a leave of absence from Kelley Direct Programs for family or medical reasons. Students may take leave for a maximum of three semesters (including summer). Time off for approved medical/maternity leave will not count toward the total time allowed to complete degree requirements (five years). Students who find themselves in circumstances that would warrant a leave or reduced course load should talk with a graduate advisor as soon as possible to design a course of study that will meet their needs.

Course Work Taken Outside the Kelley School of Business
Transfer credit is designed to benefit the student who has completed course work as a student in another program, or the IU Kelley student who must relocate before completing the degree requirements. In addition, transfer credit can only be applied to the elective component of a Kelley Direct Program. For additional rules associated with transfer of credit from non-Kelley School of Business institutions, please see the Academic Policies Governing Kelley School of Business Graduate Programs section of the Kelley Graduate Bulletin.
Deviations from program requirements, such as substitutions of courses taken at other institutions, shall not be final until approved in writing by the chairperson of the program or an authorized representative.
