Admission and Academic Policies
The IUPUI Honors College offers high-achieving incoming freshmen with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher the opportunity to apply for admission and one or more of our four competitive scholarships. Once admitted to IUPUI, students can begin the application process by completing the IU General Scholarship Application, which is on the IU Scholarships portal (searchable via One.IU). Upon submission of this application, students may access the IUPUI Honors College Admission and Scholarship Application.
Scholarship recipients are selected based on a variety of factors, such as strength of the academic curriculum in high school, grade trends, scholarship resume and essay(s), academic work sample, references, and qualities specified in each scholarship program.
The deadline to submit all application materials for the Bepko, Presidential, and Plater Scholarships is November 15. The deadline for the Chancellor's Scholarship is February 15. For more information about the admission process and scholarships, please visit our website.
The IUPUI Honors College holds orientation for incoming freshmen during the summer. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the IUPUI Honors College and requirements, meet with their honors advisor as well as their school advisors, get to know other honors scholars, and register for classes for the upcoming semester.
All IUPUI Honors College scholars are required to complete one honors course or experience every fall and spring semester. They may take no more than 6 credit hours (two courses) of honors work each semester. Scholars are required to complete a total of 24 honors credits with a minimum honors and cumulative GPA of 3.3 to graduate with honors. For students admitted in fall 2022 and later, these 24 credits must include HON-H 200 Introduction to Honors and HON-H 496 Honors Senior ePortfolio.
IUPUI Honors College scholars who are admitted as incoming freshmen on an IUPUI Honors College scholarship are also required to complete a minimum number of documented in-person volunteer hours each academic year. The IUPUI Honors College follows the community service guidelines established by the IUPUI Human Resources Administration that states volunteer service cannot promote religion, influence legislation or policy, or influence election to public office. In addition, students cannot receive monetary compensation or academic credit for their volunteer service.
Continuing and transfer students may be admitted to the IUPUI Honors College through admission to their school honors program. Admission must be granted no later than the beginning of the junior year to have adequate time to complete the 24 hours of honors coursework required for graduation with honors. The IUPUI Honors College holds an orientation session in late August for all IUPUI Honors College scholars who are entering the college through an academic school’s honors program.
Scholars who meet all of the requirements to graduate with honors at the end of their senior year are invited to attend the IUPUI Honors College graduation celebration where they will receive honors cords and a medallion to wear at commencement.
