The department offers Purdue University Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Biocomputing Track, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Graduate Certificates, and Master of Science (M.S.) degrees. It also offer a Certificate in Applied Computer Science and a Certificate in Fundamentals of Data Analytics. Students interested in research may arrange to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree through the Purdue University Graduate School. The programs of study emphasize the basic principles of computing and information processing, which include the creation, representation, display, storage, transformation, and transmission of information, as well as the software to accomplish these tasks. Because computers are used in all segments of society, the theory and practice of computer and information science are pervasive and the field is, therefore, interdisciplinary. It is also young and dynamic, as evidenced by the growth of the computer industry, so the curriculum itself evolves rapidly.
