Undergraduate Programs

The School of Health & Human Sciences is centered on providing a dynamic learning experience. You’ll learn from supportive, expert faculty and work with community partners and programs.

Our undergraduate academic programs include six majors to choose from.

  • Exercise Science
Exercise science is the study of human health, wellness, and movement. Our degree will arm you with the knowledge and skills to launch you into a profession in the health, fitness, or sports fields.
In your courses, you’ll develop foundational knowledge of kinesiology, fitness, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, and more.
You’ll explore the boundaries of what the human body can do through research, internships, and real-life, hands-on experience in the field.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research, mentored by outstanding faculty who are experts in the field.
Our exercise science graduates have applied their training to help solve the nation’s growing health issues, such as diabetes and obesity. Many advance into graduate or professional schools, on their way to becoming exercise physiologists, physical therapists, physician assistants, and occupational therapists.
  • Fitness Management and Personal Training
When you major in Fitness Management and Personal Training, you’ll gain an in-depth knowledge of movement, physical activity programming, and nutrition.
You’ll work with real clients and build your knowledge through research projects, internships, and opportunities to study abroad.
Graduates from this program are getting the country in shape at clinics, health and fitness clubs, community centers, nursing homes, hospitals, sports organizations, and businesses nationwide. They have the power to change lives through their jobs as personal trainers, health coaches, and fitness directors at every level.
And the career track has double rewards. While you’re helping others live well, you’re also helping yourself—daily exercise is part of the job.
  • Health Sciences
A degree in health sciences allows you to explore a number of health-related disciplines and prepares you for a wide variety of career options.
You’ll learn how the aging process affects people physically and psychologically—and how society can better serve them—from expert practitioners and nationally renowned scholars.
You’ll explore the ins and outs of health care systems—both in the United States and across the globe.
You’ll also discover how disabilities impact society. How rehabilitation organizations are run and how they deliver care. And how proper nutrition and healthcare promotion initiatives can improve overall wellness. And that’s just for starters.
As your studies progress, you can choose to keep your focus broad or hone in on a specific area to better prepare for a specific career or graduate school program. It’s all up to you!
  • Physical Education Teacher Education
Physical education teachers transform lives. For some children, they’re the first adults to promote healthy, active lifestyles.
Our program for preparing physical education teachers is the oldest in the nation, meets all standards of the Indiana Department of Education, and is founded on the guidelines of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
You’ll earn an all-grade Indiana teacher’s license for physical education, and you’ll have many options for student teaching.

Do you want to make your mark on the business side of the sports industry? You’ll be a big fan of our major in Sports Management.
You’ll study in Indianapolis home to six professional sports franchises, several Olympic governing bodies, the NCAA, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
You’ll work directly with these and other organizations before you graduate, interning with professional and amateur sports teams and solving real-life business problems.
In addition to the bachelor’s degree, you'll earn a certificate from the Kelley School of Business.
  • Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management
