Arabic

The study of Arabic opens the door to the cultures of the Middle East and the vast Islamic world. It is an important language for the fields of political science, religion, art history, business, security service and foreign affairs. The Program in Arabic offers courses in beginning, intermediate and advanced Arabic.

Individualized Major in Arabic & Islamic Studies

Students may create an individualized major in Arabic & Islamic Studies thanks to a partnership with Religious Studies and the Individualized Major Program. Students who are interested in designing their own Arabic & Islamic Studies major must first consult with Dr. Amira Mashhour, Director of the Program in Arabic and Professor Susan Shepherd, Director of the Individualized Major Program.

The Minor in Arabic & Islamic Studies consists of fifteen (15) credit hours in Arabic language or related courses approved by the Program Director (a minimum of 6 credit hours must be completed on the IUPUI campus). Courses at the 100-level do not count toward the minor.
