Overview

History

SPEA stands for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. It also stands for excellence, community involvement, responsibility, purposeful action, and positive change in Indiana and throughout the world. More than thirty years ago, the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) was founded as a response to the issues of modern society - needs that were not being addressed by more traditional schools.

Launched in 1972, the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) is now completing a generation of accomplishment in education, science, and public service. Building on a generation of growth and scholarly achievement, SPEA aspires to be "the best of its class," with a faculty and student body who have a global perspective and who appreciate the value of unconventional careers that span the public, non-profit and for-profit sectors.
