Disaster Management Minor

A minor in disaster management will provide students with foundational knowledge in managing disasters.  Students in the minor will explore the history of disasters; evidence-based practices in the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to, and recovery from disasters; legal and social issues involving the experience and management of disasters; hazard identification and assessment; crisis communication; the public and private administration of disasters; and technology and disasters.   Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours (5 courses) including two foundational classes and three electives.  Students may choose two elective classes from other disciplines across campus.  You must get a grade of C- or higher in each course. 

The Following Courses are Required: 

  • CJHS-J 275 Introduction to Emergency (3 cr.)
  • CJHS-J 470 Capstone in Disaster Management (3 cr.)

Criminal Justice Electives. Choose three of the following courses:
