Minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program at IU Indianapolis provides undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue a sequence of courses in a growing academic discipline.

The uniqueness of WGSS lies both in its interdisciplinary approach to learning and in the timely opportunity it offers for the study of issues often neglected by scholarship. Completion of the WGSS minor may provide an additional basis for pursuing further education in law, psychology, history, literature, communication studies, social work, and business administration, among many other fields. For students who do not continue professional or graduate work in an academic discipline, specializing in WGSS may provide a useful background in careers that require understanding of women, gender roles, and sexual identity, such as paralegal and probation work, secondary and elementary school counseling, journalism, and community agency service.

A minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) requires satisfactory completion of the following requirements:

  • completion of properly distributed credit hour requirements for the baccalaureate degree in effect when the student was admitted to their home school,
  • completion of 15 credit hours, with a minimum grade of C in each course,
  • completion of 6 credits at IU Indianapolis
  • to declare the minor, complete the School of Liberal Arts online declaration form here.
