Minor in Religious Studies
Religious Studies explores the diversity and history of the world's religions from the perspectives of the academic study of religion. The history of religions is marked by remarkable change and variety. Studying religions reveals people's deepest desires and beliefs. Our courses explore how religious communities perform worship, shape moral norms and gender roles, wage war and make peace, influence what people eat, how they dress, and how they live and die. Studying religions is also personally meaningful as students and faculty reflect together on big ethical and philosophical questions.
A minor in Religious Studies is flexible to fit students' interests. It complements many areas of study. Students can complete Concentrations in (1) Religion and Health, (2) Religion and International Studies, (3) Religion, Gender, and Sexuality, (4) Religion, Ethics, and Politics, (5) American Religious History and Diversity, and (6) Christianity and Culture. With a minor in Religious Studies, students will develop their skills of critical thinking, cultural analysis, moral imagination, and persuasive writing and oral communication, along with an ability to understand and work with people from different backgrounds.
