Undergraduate
Student Research and Human Subjects
Indiana University requires that all research using human subjects be approved before the research begins. This satisfies a number of federal, state, and institutional regulations, and—more importantly—ensures protection of the rights and welfare of persons used in research. Every research proposal submitted by a student and/or faculty member must contain documentation that clearance has been obtained for the use of human subjects. A faculty member must sponsor this research. Forms and procedures for this purpose are available online at research.iu.edu/compliance/human-subjects/review-levels/index.html.
