Residence Requirement

Residence is defined as full-time pursuit of academic coursework on the Bloomington campus. In meeting residence requirements, students are expected to be on campus in regular contact with faculty and fellow graduate students during the specified time period. A full-time schedule is normally considered to consist of 12–15 credit hours of coursework. For full-time graduate assistants, research assistants, and associate instructors, 6 credit hours constitute a full-time course load.

A period of full-time residence is not required for students in master's degree programs. However, master's degree students must take a minimum of 25–30 of the required 35–47 credit hours at Indiana University. Doctoral students must be enrolled for a minimum of two consecutive semesters of full-time coursework on the Bloomington campus.
