Degree Requirements

Certification to the School of Education

Students may be certified into the School of Education either as entering freshmen or by meeting certification requirements while in other academic units on campus. 

Directly Admitted Students

First year students who apply to IUB as education majors will be directly admitted to the School of Education and receive academic advising through the School of Education.

Major Change from Another Academic Unit

Students should meet with an education advisor, who can provide guidance in meeting certification requirements. These requirements include one of the following:

  • Option 1:
    • Enrollment in EDUC-G 203 Communication for Youth Serving Professionals OR EDUC-W200 Teaching with Technology AND EDUC-F 110 Windows on Education 
    • An overall IU Grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (unless the candidate is in their first semester of undergraduate education).
  • Option 2:
    • Enrollment in EDUC-G 203 Communication for Youth Serving Professionals OR EDUC-W200 Teaching with Technology AND EDUC-F 110 Windows on Education 
    • Students may cerify into the School of Education with under a 2.5 in the given situations
      • Credit Hours Completed: 1-18.5 cr.; Required GPA = 1.75
      • Credit Hours Completed: 19-36.5 cr.; Required GPA = 2.10
      • Credit Hours Completed: 37-45.5 cr.; Required GPA = 2.2
      • Credit Hours Completed: 46-60 cr.; Required GPA = 2.275
      • Credit Hours Completed: 60.5 cr.+; Required GPA = Be appeal only
