About the Center for Distance Education

IU South Bend offers several distance education (DE) courses; including online and hybrid/blended courses for undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. Admission to the university is required and tuition is the same for classes held on campus. Throughout the year, new courses are developed with several offered every semester.

Students interested in taking distance education courses can visit https://www.iusb.edu/distance-learning/online-courses.php to view Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), including being an online student, and how to search for distance education courses offered at IU South Bend. Students are strongly encouraged to take the IU-Ready Student Readiness Survey which is a self-assessment meant to help students understand what is required/expected of them, as well as what they can expect from a DE course and instructor.

Course descriptions and requirements are posted by the instructor in OneStart. On-campus attendance requirements are included in the course description. Students can complete course requirements at their own pace offsite; however, required deadlines for each DE course (submitting assignments, taking exams, etc.) are required.
