Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science - Online Collaborative

Degree Requirements

Students receiving the Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science must complete 120 total credit hours including:

  • General Education Core (30 cr.)
  • Mathematics Core (31 cr.)
  • Actuarial Science Core (9 cr.)
  • Programming/Computer Science Core (6 cr.)
  • Business and Economics Core (15 cr.)
  • 400/500 Actuarial Science Electives (15 cr.)
  • Electives as needed to complete 120 total credit hours

  •  A minimum of 30 credit hours at the 300- or 400-level
  • Courses required for the major must be completed with a grade of C or higher
  • Courses are 3 credit hours unless otherwise noted
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required

  • MATH-M 215 Calculus I (5 credits)
  • MATH-M 216 Calculus II (5 credits)
  • MATH-M 311 Calculus III (3 credits)
  • MATH-M 447 Mathematical Modeling and Application I (3 credits)
  • MATH-M 448 Mathematical Modeling and Application II (3 credits)
  • MATH-M 463 Probability (3 credits)
  • MATH-M 466 Statistics (3 credits)

Actuarial Science Core (9 cr.)

Programming/Computer Science Core (7 cr.)

  • CSCI-A 201 Introduction to Programming I

Select One Course:

  • MATH-M 367 Introduction Statistics Programming in R
  • STAT-I 421 Modern Statistical Modeling Using R and SAS (3 credits) 

Business and Economics Core (15 cr.)

Select One Course:
  • ECON-E 103 Introduction to Microeconomics
  • ECON-E 201 Introduction to Microeconomics (3 credits)

Select One Course:

  • ECON-E 104 Introduciton to Macroeconmics
  • ECON-E 202 Introduction to Macroeconomics (3 credits)

Complete the Following Three Courses:

  • BUS-A 201 Introduction to Financial Accounting (3 credits)
  • BUS-A 202 Introduction to Managerial Accounting (3 credits)
  • BUS-F 301 Financial Mangement (3 credits)

Actuarial Electives (15 cr.)

  • Complete five of the following courses:
    • MATH-M 451 Financial Mathematics
    • MATH-M 485 Life Contingencies I
    • STAT-S 352 Data Modeling and Inference
    • STAT-S 431 Applied Linear Models I
    • STAT-S 432 Applied Linear Models II
    • STAT-S 450 Time Series Analysis

In addition, students must complete general education and college/school requirements according to the campus of enrollment.
