In addition to fulfilling the general distribution requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree established by the School of Liberal Arts, the Spanish major must complete 30 credit hours in courses at the 300 and 400 levels (12 of which must be completed on the IUPUI campus) with a grade of C (2.0) or higher.

  • 300-level required courses: SPAN S313, SPAN S323, SPAN S326, SPAN S360, and SPAN S363
  • One 400-level literature course: SPAN S407, SPAN S408, SPAN S428, SPAN S431, SPAN S432, SPAN S445, SPAN S450, SPAN S455, SPAN S457, SPAN S461, SPAN S470, SPAN S471, SPAN S472, SPAN S477, or SPAN S495
  • One course in culture and civilization: SPAN S411 or SPAN S412
  • One course in linguistics: SPAN S425, SPAN S427, SPAN S428, SPAN S440, or SPAN S441
  • One elective
  • Senior Capstone: SPAN S487 or SPAN S498
Senior Capstone

Only majors with senior standing may register for SPAN S487 Capstone Internship or SPAN S498 Capstone Seminar in Spanish with authorization. Working with a project director, students will prepare a learning portfolio that integrates their undergraduate study through writing and reading projects, discussions with their capstone director, a research or internship project, and a final oral presentation.

Teacher Certification in Spanish
Transition to Teaching Program: T2T
Students with a B.A. in Spanish who have completed their teaching major requirements in Spanish can earn an accelerated Teacher Certification in 12 months with the School of Education . Contact the T2T Program Advisor,
Dual degree in Spanish and Engineering

Note for native speakers of Spanish: since SPAN S317 is not open to native or heritage speakers, another course at the 300 or 400 level must be substituted. Please consult the director of the Program in Spanish.
