IUPUI Libraries

IUPUI has five distinct libraries that work together to support students, faculty, and the broader community. The combined collections of the libraries on the IUPUI campus contain over one million volumes and over 80,000 electronic serial titles. IUCAT, the IU libraries catalog system, is available at all campus libraries and online. An interlibrary loan service connects the IUPUI libraries with universities and libraries throughout the state and country, and most requests for articles are filled within 72 hours.

On the IUPUI campus, students and researchers have access to the Ruth Lilly Law Library at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and the Indiana University School of Dentistry Library. The University Library, located in the center of the campus, supports course work and faculty and student research and covers a wide range of academic disciplines, from liberal arts to science, engineering, and technology. University Library houses the nationally recognized Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library and the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives. Additionally, the Herron School of Art and Design Library is a full service branch of the University Library located in Eskenazi Hall.

Since the opening of it’s current building in 1993 the University Library has been a leader among academic libraries. With over 400 computer workstations available for individual work, group study and classroom instruction, the library informs, connects and transforms the lives of students through leading edge technology and the expertise of a full-time faculty of 30 librarians. In the library’s 2120 Learning Lab students learn to navigate electronic resources and use them ethically in their research. The Rich Media area on the fourth floor gives students tools to produce high-end multimedia projects in a collaborative environment. The library houses the 100-seat Ruth Lilly Auditorium and a variety of meeting rooms, annually hosting over 4,000 meetings and classes. An online system allows students to reserve 30 private study rooms, which are booked over 23,000 times a year.

With thousands of e-Books and electronic databases, the resources of IUPUI’s campus libraries are always available online. University Library is open an average of 100 hours each week during regular semesters. The law, medical, dental and art libraries each set hours independently to meet the needs of IUPUI students.
