The following scholarships have been established through donations to the Indiana University Northwest campus and directly through the university budget. Students who think they may qualify for any of these scholarships or need additional information pertaining to any of the following should contact the indicated office.

Freshman Scholarships

Various academic scholarships are awarded annually to freshman students enrolling full-time directly from a state-accredited high school. Most of these scholarships are renewable as long as certain academic criteria are met. Contact the Office of Admissions for details.

Chancellor's Valedictorian—students who rank #1 in their graduating class. Award is for full tuition, fees and books.

Chancellor's Salutatorian—students who rank #2 in their graduating class. Award is for full tuition and fees.

Bank One Merrillville—students who rank in the top 15 percent of their graduating class with SAT scores 950 or above are eligible to apply. Preference given to African American and Hispanic students who reside in Lake or Porter counties. Award is for full tuition, fees and books.

Bank One NA Bank Fellows—students who rank in the top one-third of their graduating class with excellent SAT scores are eligible to apply. Award is for full tuition, fees and books.

Baccalaureate/Medical Education—provides full tuition scholarship to a student residing in an urban, medically underserved area, who is planning to major in Pre-med. Must come to Indiana University Northwest directly from high school. Minimum GPA 3.5 and a SAT score of 1200 or higher.

Citizens Financial Services—provides a $1,000.00 scholarship to freshman who resides in Lake, Porter, or LaPorte County.

City of Gary/Indiana University Northwest Endowed—awarded to a high school graduate from Gary. Minimum GPA 2.75.

Jim and Betty Dye—annual, full-tuition scholarship to student graduating from Griffith High School coming directly to Indiana University Northwest.

Andrew Fernandez Memorial—incoming full-time freshman student of Hispanic descent who has excellent high school records.

Carl L. and David M. Kahn—student who is a full-time incoming freshman who ranks in the top 25 percent of his or her graduating class with excellent SAT scores.

Special Academic—students who rank in the top 10 percent of their graduating class or have a GPA of 3.5 and excellent SAT scores. Award is for full tuition.

Theatre Patron Scholarship—$500.00 awarded to an incoming freshman based on student's audition and/or portfolio presentation.

Continuing Student Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded to current Indiana University Northwest students with proven academic achievement. Award amounts vary and can be from $100.00 to full tuition, fees, and books. Awards may be renewable or available only one time. For additional information and further details on the following scholarships, students should contact the Office of Financial Aid.

Altrusa of the Indiana Dunes—full-time or part-time undergraduate female who is at least a junior with excellent GPA.

Allen Austin Memorial—students who have demonstrated outstanding writing ability, awarded by the English Department.

Florence Bond—awarded to full-time student majoring in Education or Special Education.

BP—at least a junior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, pursuing bachelor's degree in biology. Preference for resident of Lake or Porter County.

Charles Bonser—undergraduate student in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship.

Lloyd Buckwell—accounting major, at least junior class standing, 3.0 minimum GPA.

Sherry Wilds Burger—nursing major with at least sophomore class standing and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Preference for student with financial need.

Romy Chirila Memorial—student in the pre-dental program, attending full time with a cumulative GPA of 3.3.

Dental Auxiliary Education—provides one scholarship, estimated at $350, to an undergraduate student who has an interest in the study of dental education.

Rogelio Dominguez—funds for students to assist the Latino Historical Society of Northwest Indiana in the Calumet National Archives.

Wanda Dudzik—students in the School of Business and Economics who have demonstrated academic excellence. (Freshmen students may also be awarded.)

Duneland Rock Club—Geology majors or students in the School of Education seeking a certificate in Earth Science or Geology.

James W. and Betty Dye Nontraditional Student—up to one-half tuition for nontraditional students who graduated from Griffith High School and completed at least 12 hours at IUN.

Peggy Gordon Elliott—student of sophomore standing who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship.

Herman and Mae Feldman—full-time student majoring in Psychology, completed at least two semesters with a cumulative GPA 3.0.

Albert and Margaret Gallagher—student in the School of Business and Economics who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship and entrepreneurial interest.

Syd Garner—student with demonstrated academic achievement who is employed by the Lake County government or is a child of such.

Hammond Optimist Club—provides two, one-time-only, $1,000 scholarships to entering full-time freshmen, with financial need, who are residents of Lake County.

Gladys C. Harris—student who is at least a junior and has earned a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5. Applicants shall have proof of financial need.

Kathleen M. Mills Hill Memorial—student in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in organizational communication or fine arts.

Susan Thorstad Hugus—full-time nursing student who is at least a sophomore with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3. The recipient must be a graduate of Chesterton or Valparaiso High School.

Indiana American Water Company—full-time student, at least a junior, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference to students majoring in environmental science, public health, or business. Must be a resident of Lake or Porter County.

Jennie B. Kahn Adult Learner— student with at least 60 credit hours who is at least 25 years of age, minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference to students with family responsibilities and who can demonstrate financial need.

Jennie B. Kahn Scholarship—awarded to full-time student who resides in Lake County. Preference given to students with serious disabilities, majoring in education or social work. Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Kremizes and Southwell—student in the Division of Arts and Sciences, majoring in humanities. Must have cumulative GPA of a least 3.0. Preference given to graduates of Valparaiso High School.

Shirley Langel—student in the Division of Nursing who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship.

Latino Hoosier Hero—full-time student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Preference to student of Latino heritage.

James and Katherine Lazerwitz—awarded to a full-time junior or senior with GPA of 3.0 or higher, majoring in chemistry, biology, or physics/geosciences. Must be resident of Lake County.

Local 6787 Memorial—student in the Division of Labor Studies who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship. Preference given to students who are members of Local 6787 or spouses or children of such.

Keith Lorentzen Chemistry—provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $1,500, to an outstanding senior majoring in chemistry with at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA.

Reverend Robert Lowery—Minority African American students in the School of Business and Economics who will be entering their junior or senior year and have demonstrated outstanding scholarship.

Penny MacLennan Memorial—provides two scholarships, estimated at $1,000 each, to full-time students majoring in dental hygiene with second year standing in the program. Recipients must have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA, have financial need, and hold no other scholarship.
