Academic Standing

Dismissal

Students are dismissed from the university when they have ceased to make adequate progress toward their degrees. A student who has failed to earn a C average in any two semesters and whose cumulative average is below 2.0 is considered to be making insufficient progress toward the degree. A student earning less than a D average (1.0) for a semester, and whose cumulative grade point falls below a C (2.0) average, is dismissed by the academic unit. If this is the first dismissal, the student may petition the academic unit for reinstatement.  Depending on the academic program, a student who has been reinstated by petition may be required to earn more than a C average in order to be considered to be making satisfactory progress toward the degree.
