Bachelor of Science in Spanish-Online Collaborative

Did you know that Spanish is the official language in 20 countries around the world? And that here in the US, about 13.5 percent of the population speaks Spanish at home. IU Online’s Bachelor of Science in Spanish offers a rigorous curriculum that develops your language proficiency, cultural facility, and professional competence in Spanish. 

There are four tracks to choose from:

  1. Spanish for Business (18 credit hours)
  2. Spanish for Medical Communication (18 credit hours)
  3. Hispanic Cultures for Travel and Tourism (18 credit hours)
  4. Hispanic Cultures in the US (18 credit hours)

The tracks allow you to apply your command of the Spanish language and knowledge of Hispanic culture in a variety of real-world settings.

Admissions

Students who meet the admission standards of their home campus (campus of enrollment) will be admitted directly into the B.S. in Spanish.

Career Outcomes

Employment opportunities in Spanish-related careers are expected to continue growing well above average for the next 10 years at the state, regional, and national level. Your IU Online B.S. in Spanish prepares you to work in such positions as:

Degree Requirements

To earn a Bachelor of Science in Spanish, you must complete 120 credit hours. You can transfer up to 60 previously earned credit hours. Requirements for the BS in Spanish are broken down as follows:

  1. Core courses (6 credit hours)
  2. Major courses (24 credit hours)
  3. Capstone course (3 credit hours)
  4. Track courses (18 credit hours)
  5. General education and elective courses (as needed to total 120 credit hours)

Each track consists of six classes.  The first two courses also count in one of the upper-level courses taught in Spanish, which also counts as two of the six classes required to satisfy requirement, "F".  The remaining four courses on topical courses taught in English that relate to the focus of the track.
