Master of Science in Education in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum
Master of Science in Education in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum offers instruction in current and innovative practices being explored in the fields of teaching and curriculum. This program may be of special interest to those in education aspiring to advanced positions and leadership roles.
As a student in this program, you gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to design a curriculum that demonstrates equitable learning opportunities for all learners. You critically analyze research-based practices and their effectiveness across multiple contexts. You design and implement an empirical study on teaching, learning, and curriculum. You synthesize information and evidence to make informed decisions regarding effective, ethical pedagogy.
This 100 percent online program is taught by IU Bloomington, IU East, IUPUI, IUPUC, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend, and IU.
This 30-credit hour master’s degree will include three sub-components:
- Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Core – (TLC Core) (15 cr.)
- Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Tracks – (TLC Tracks) (12 cr.)
- Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Capstone – (TLC Capstone) (3 cr.)
To earn an M.S.Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum, students must complete each of the three components of the degree and all required coursework:
I. M.S.Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum - Core (5 courses/15 cr.)
- Curriculum – EDUC-J 500 – Instruction in the Context of Curriculum (3 cr.)
- Equity for Learning – Choose one of the following two courses:
- EDUC-E 555 – Human Diversity in Education (3 cr.), or
- EDUC-J 655 – Seminar in Multicultural and Global Education (3 cr.)
- Teaching for All Learners – EDUC-J 501 Strategies for Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum (3 cr.)
- Assessment and Evaluation – EDUC-J 502 Assessment and Evaluation (3 cr.)
- Inquiry – EDUC-Y 520 – Strategies for Education Inquiry (3 cr.)
II. M.S.Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum—Tracks (4 courses / 12cr)
Each track is composed of a set of four interdisciplinary courses offered across teaching, learning, and curriculum that reflect the anticipated needs and interests of M.S.Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum students. Courses will be taught by curriculum and instruction faculty with faculty in different specializations offering courses on occasion.
1. Early Childhood Care and Education (12 cr.)
Take the following classes:
- EDUC-E 506 Curriculum in Early Childhood Education (3 cr.)
- EDUC-E 525 Advanced Curriculum Study in Early Childhood Education (3 cr.)
- EDUC-P 515 Child Development (3 cr.)
- One course selected from one of the other TLC tracks (3 cr.)
2. STEM and Arts Innovations (12 cr.)
Take the following classes:
- EDUC-S 504 Introduction to STEM Teaching (3 cr.)
- EDUC-Q 528 Demonstration and Field Strategies in Science (3 cr.)
- EDUC-Z 501 Art Methods for Non-Art Specialist Educators (3 cr.)

3. Teacher Leadership and Instructional Coaching (12 cr.)
Take the following classes:
