Social Studies Teaching Major

Teaching major requirements are fulfilled by completing a minimum of 41 credit hours in Social Studies. A minimum GPA of 2.5 in the teaching major is required (with no grade less than a C in the teaching major). The IU Kokomo Teacher Education Program requires that Historical Perspectives and Government and Citizenship be the licensure areas. Student may want to choose a minor in either Sociology, Psychology, or Economics to add an additional licensure area. The minor will be additional credit hours.

History/Political Science Dual Degree Program

The History/Political Science program works cooperatively with the School of Education to administer a dual degree program in History/Political Science-Secondary Education. Students participating in this program will complete both a Bachelor of Science in History/Political Science degree and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree. Students in this program will be certified to teach at the secondary school level with expertise in both History and Government.
