Minors

Department of Applied Health Science Options for Doctoral Minor
The courses required for the applied health science doctoral minor options are as follows:

  • Addictive Behaviors (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-B 516, SPH-B 518, SPH-B 589, and 6 additional graduate credits in consultation with the minor advisor.
  • Gerontology (9 credits minimum) Complete 3 courses from the following in consultation with minor advisor: SPH-H 524 /EDUC-P 513*, SPH-B 535*, SPH-B 615*, EDUC-P 517*, EDUC-P 518*. (*offered online)
  • Health Behavior (12 credits minimum) Complete a minimum of 12 health behavior graduate credits in consultation with an advisor.
  • Health Promotion (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-B 589 and either SPH-H 500 or SPH-H 635. In addition, complete 9 graduate level credits in consultation with the minor advisor.
  • Human Development and Family Studies (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-H 654 and 12 additional credits, selected in consultation with the minor advisor from the following: SPH F-510, SPH-F 550, SPH-F 531, SPH-F 532, SPH-F 533, SPH-F 541, SPH-F 543, SPH-F 546, SPH-F 557, SPH-F 558, SPH-F 559, SPH-F 560, SPH-F 692, SPH-F 691, and SPH-F 656.
  • Human Sexuality Education (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-B 589, SPH-H 515, SPH-H 540, SPH-H 555, and 3 additional graduate level credits in consultation with the minor advisor.
  • Nutrition Science (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-N 530, SPH-N 532, SPH-N 692, and one of the following courses: CHEM-C 483 -or- CHEM-C 484 -or- MCHE-C 580. Complete 3 additional credits, selected in consultation with the minor advisor from the following courses: SPH-N 520, SPH-N 531, SPH-N 536, SPH-N 600, SPH-N 601, SPH-N 620, and SPH-N 691.
  • Public Health Education (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-P 510, SPH-B 589, SPH-V 541, SPH-E 651, and three additional graduate level credits, selected in consultation with the minor advisor.
  • Safety Management (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-B 589 and an additional 12 credits of graduate level courses selected in consultation with the minor advisor.
  • School and College Health Education (15 credits minimum) Complete SPH-B 589, SPH-H 510, SPH-H 623, SPH-H 635, and either SPH-H 500 or SPH-H 502.
Department of Environmental Health Options for Doctoral Minor

A doctoral minor in Environmental Health (9 credits minimum) requires a minimum of 9 credits of graduate level courses including SPH-V 541 and 6 additional credits selected in consultation with the minor advisor from the following: SPH-V 510, SPH-V 542, SPH-V 545, SPH-V 546, SPH-V 548, SPH-V 741, SPH-V 743, SPH-V 745, SPH-V 747.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Options for Doctoral Minor
The courses required for the Biostatistics doctoral minor and the Epidemiology doctoral minor are as follows:

  • Biostatistics (9 credits minimum) Complete SPH-Q 602, SPH-Q 603, and 3 additional credits in consultation with the minor advisor from the following: SPH-Q 502, SPH-Q 601, SPH-Q 611, SPH-Q 612.
  • Epidemiology (9 credits minimum) Complete SPH-E 651, SPH-Q 502, and 3 additional credits in consultation with the minor advisor from the following: SPH-E 658, SPH-E 659, SPH-E 653, SPH-E 655, SPH-E 657, SPH-Q 602.
Department of Kinesiology Options for Doctoral Minor

A doctoral minor in Human Performance (12 credits minimum) requires a minimum of 12 credits of graduate level human performance courses which are individually determined through consultation with the minor advisor.

Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies Options for Doctoral Minor

A doctoral minor in Leisure Behavior (9 credits minimum) requires a minimum of 9 credits with a minimum acceptable grade of B in each course used in the minor. At least 3 of the 9 required credits must be completed from the following list of courses: SPH-R 710, SPH-R 711, SPH-R 712, and SPH-R 794. The remaining 6 credits may also be selected from this list of courses, or with the approval of the student's minor advisor and advisory committee, any other graduate level course in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies may be selected.
