Guitar

  • MUS L128 Guitar Heroes (2 cr.) P: L101 Beginning Guitar Class, or L121 Beginning Guitar Class and Styles, or consent of instructor. Study and performance of the musical legacy created by guitar heroes from the 1930s to the present day. This course will investigate in a practical manner the solos, riffs, compositions, and techniques of various noteworthy guitarists who often presented new and unorthodox approaches to guitar playing conventions.
  • MUS L345 Latin Guitar (2 cr.) P: Undergraduate major in Guitar or consent of instructor. Designed for students of all levels. Divided into modules, the course will allow students to learn about a diverse range of Latin American guitars styles and techniques.
  • MUS L465 Electric Guitar Concepts (2 cr.) P: Undergraduate major in Guitar or consent of instructor. Study of popular electric guitar styles including genre-specific techniques in blues, rock, funk, and country, and adaptation to unfamiliar musical situations. This class includes multiple approaches to improvising and composing on the instrument.
  • MUS L545 Latin Guitar (3 cr.) P: Graduate major in Guitar. Modules will allow students to learn about a diverse range of Latin American guitar styles and techniques. In-depth readings, seminar discussions, and listening assignments will lead to a research paper and presentation.
  • MUS L565 Electric Guitar Concepts (3 cr.) P: Graduate major in Guitar. Study of popular electric guitar styles including genre-specific techniques in blues, rock, funk, and country, and adaptation to unfamiliar musical situations. This class includes multiple approaches to improvising and composing on the instrument and research of the history of the electric guitar, its key innovators, and styles.
