Admission Requirements
Orientation
Upon admission to Indiana University Bloomington, students begin their orientation to this campus. The Office of First Year Experience Programs will contact admitted students and provide online orientation information.
Students admitted to the Jacobs School of Music will receive information about Music Fundamentals Online, a web-based course to be completed during the summer before their first enrollment. Successful completion of Music Fundamentals Online is deemed equivalent to completion of T109 Rudiments of Music I for purposes of degree requirements and prerequisites to other courses. See http://go.iu.edu/1AQE for details.
Students who plan to enter Indiana University in the fall semester should attend the summer orientation and registration program or may participate in orientation and registration in August before the beginning of classes. At these times special attention is given to placement testing and group and individual advising. Welcome Week in August includes the Freshman Family Picnic; Freshman Induction Ceremony; the president’s and vice president’s receptions; and numerous academic activities, including sessions on learning in a large lecture, studying a foreign language, and learning study techniques. Opportunities to learn about getting involved in activities on campus, taking advantage of cultural events, and finding the locations of offices and classrooms also are a part of orientation. Additional opportunities to interact with faculty and to participate in special workshops and skill-building sessions are scheduled throughout the year. Students living in residence centers may participate in a variety of activities planned especially for the centers.
