Recreation, Park & Tourism Studies
Description of Program
The Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies is a diverse team of colleagues dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life through leisure. We accomplish this by global academic leadership and excellence in the development and dissemination of a body of knowledge. We offer both undergraduate and graduate curricula. The undergraduate curriculum, leading to the B.S. in Recreation degree, prepares students for positions as recreation activity programmers, planners, and leaders; managers of facilities; supervisors; park and recreation resource managers; and specialists in such areas as tourism management, therapeutic recreation, recreational sports, public and nonprofit organizations, and outdoor adventure education. The graduate curriculum is for students preparing for careers in administration management, teaching, and research. In addition, students often elect to pursue recreation specialist careers in such areas as recreation planning, environmental education, and clinical and nonclinical therapeutic recreation.
