Admission

Only students who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) will be considered for admission, unless, under exceptional circumstances, the prospective student can provide evidence that he or she is capable of successfully completing the graduate dental program. Application forms must be accompanied by transcripts of undergraduate and professional school work together with such additional materials as may serve to determine eligibility and ability to satisfactorily pursue an advanced course of study. Letters of support attesting to the candidate’s academic background, professional experience, and character should be requested from at least two individuals who have direct knowledge of the candidate’s potential to do graduate-level work. Deadline dates for completed applications vary among the individual graduate programs. In addition, several of the individual graduate programs participate in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS¹) and the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program (Match²), two national services designed to help applicants obtain positions in first-year postdoctoral programs of their choice, as well as to help the programs obtain applicants of their choice. Candidates must register in these services if the program is a participant. For applications for the 2019-2020 academic year, five IU graduate programs are participating in both PASS and Match: oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and prosthodontics. The endodontics graduate program is participating in PASS. Candidates should contact the dental school’s Office of Graduate Education or the appropriate program director to obtain more information about application deadlines, national application services, and other details related to the application process.
