Dental Assisting - Indianapolis
Admission (Campus Program)
1. Applying to the dental assisting program on the Indianapolis campus is a two-step process involving both the IUPUI Office of Admissions and the IU School of Dentistry Division of Dental Assisting. Applicants must first file an admission application with the IUPUI Office of Admissions and be admitted to the university as
Applicants will submit an online application located on the dental assisting web page. Applications to the dental assisting program must include official transcripts from all high schools and all postsecondary schools attended, including colleges, universities, and vocational institutions. The transcripts of applicants who are currently enrolled in their senior year of high school should include grades from fall semester and have the final grade report for the spring semester sent to the dental assisting program as soon as possible after graduation.
Graduates of GED programs must submit a copy of their GED certificate and scores. Official transcripts showing all academic work completed must be submitted before final acceptance in the dental assisting program.
2. Applicants must have an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 0 (on a 4.0 scale) as well as a minimum of 2.0 in science and English courses taken in high school and college. At least two college courses must be taken in each category; English and science for the category to be counted at the college level. Refer to the dental assisting Web page for more information about courses that are accepted in the English and science categories.
3. Applicants must observe a chairside dental assistant in a dental office for a minimum of eight To verify this requirement has been completed, applicants must ask the dentist to write a note of verification on the dental office’s letterhead. Applicants must submit this note, along with their transcripts, to the IUSD Dental Assisting Program. Refer to the dental assisting Web page for more information.
4. Individuals for whom English is a
Applications will be accepted by the IUSD Dental Assisting Office from January 1 to June 15th prior to the fall semester the applicant wishes to enter the program. However, applications and documents received after this date will be considered until the class is full.
Applicants should send the note of verification from the dental office where you completed our observation hours and all official transcripts to the Dental Assisting Office, Indiana University School of Dentistry, 1121 W. Michigan Street, DS S409, Indianapolis, IN 46202-5186. Incomplete applications will not be considered. All potential applicants are advised to consult the School of Dentistry’s dental assisting program Web site for updates or changes in dental assisting admissions policies that may occur after publication of this document.
