Evening M.B.A. Program
General Information
The strengths of this world-class M.B.A. Program include the following:
A module usually spans an entire semester with class meetings two nights a week throughout the term. Courses in the modules vary from the traditional 15-week sessions to innovative 8-week sessions.
Candidates may apply for fall admission between January 1 and April 15, and for spring admission between May 1 and November 1. Applications are evaluated on a biweekly basis and highly qualified candidates who apply early will be granted an early admission decision. The final application deadline for entering the program in August is April 15; the deadline for January entry is November 1. The M.B.A. application provides a checklist and complete instructions. The application is available online via kelley.iupui.edu. International students must submit applications one month before the M.B.A. deadline. Official transcripts are required from all of the colleges and universities the applicant has attended.
Applicants who have not taken any courses in financial accounting or statistics within the last 5 years are required to do so prior to formal entry into the Evening M.B.A. Program. Several different courses can meet this requirement. For more information see kelley.iupui.edu or call (317) 274-4895.
Applicants to the M.B.A. Program also must submit their scores from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Prepared by Educational Testing Service, the test can be taken on a computer and is offered year-round by appointment at various GMAT testing sites worldwide. GMAT scores are required to be submitted to the Program Office before an admissions decision can be made. Early submission of scores will enable an early admissions decision. International applicants whose native language is not English must also submit their scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL is required of all international applicants, even if they have earned an academic degree in the United States. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 is required. The applicant's undergraduate scholastic performance, scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), work experience, letters of recommendation, and demonstrated leadership are reviewed carefully to assess the candidate's qualifications for entering the Evening M.B.A. Program. The goal of the Admission Committee is to select those applicants who can successfully complete graduate study and who show promise of making significant contributions in their respective fields of business.

General Information
The 32- to 36-month program of study includes integrated modules that address the broad foundations of business theory and practice, as well as cross-functional business issues; guide applications to practice; and assist with the development of personal skills. During the final year of the program, students explore individual areas of interest through the selection of elective course work.
Students may begin study in August or in January. Each entering class is organized into smaller study teams of four or five students who work together on projects, presentations, and preparation, all of which require team effort. Barring an unforeseen interruption of study, members of an entering class progress through the program as a cohort and complete the program together.
The student entering the M.B.A. Program within the Kelley School of Business is required to fulfill the degree requirements in effect when he or she matriculates. All candidates who complete the degree requirements are conferred the Master of Business Administration degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
In order to receive the Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University on the Indianapolis campus, the candidate must:

** G512 meets once per week during the second half of the semester.
*** X511 meets as a combination ADC (Alternate Delivery Channel) and in-class course.
**** S556 meets as an ADC during the second half of the semester. F520 meets in class, once per week, in the second half.
The standard and recommended sequencing for the M.B.A. Program is:
Enrollment
One intensive seminar is incorporated into the 32- to 36-month program. This session offers a forum to study interdisciplinary topics of a changing nature.
Attendance at the intensive seminar is required to earn credit and to enroll in the remaining course work in a module. If any portion of the intensive seminar is missed for any reason, the student must retake the seminar before he or she will be considered for graduation.
In extreme circumstances, a candidate may petition and be granted permission from the Graduate Office to remain enrolled in a module with a prearranged absence from the Intensive Seminar.
In cases other than emergencies, the petition must be presented in writing at least four weeks before the Intensive Seminar. If approved, the candidate must:
No exemptions from course work will be granted. Professional experience and/or previous undergraduate course work will not be a basis for a waiver or alteration of required course work.
The exceptions to this policy are students admitted to the joint programs (M.B.A./J.D., M.B.A./M.D., M.B.A./M.H.A.) who are exempt from some course work. Please see an advisor for details.
All students who graduate from the M.B.A. Program in Indianapolis will be conferred a Master of Business Administration degree with a major in General Administration, Finance, or Venture and Technology Management from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Alternative Delivery Courses (ADC)
ADC courses are designed to be delivered to students primarily via the Internet. Many electives are offered in this format, allowing students a very high degree of flexibility in scheduling classes near the end of the program of study. Students can enroll in ADCs when available in the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
Academic Policies and Procedures
GPA Requirements
Given the Kelley School of Business grade scale (see Academic Policies under "Graduate Programs" in this bulletin), a candidate must compile a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in all Kelley School of Business course work to remain in good standing and to complete graduation requirements. Courses not approved as a part of the student's M.B.A. curriculum will not be included in calculation of the M.B.A. GPA.

Withdrawal (W) from Courses/Modules
In the Evening M.B.A. Program, due to the cohort structure, a W will put a student one module behind and require that the student drop out of his or her cohort and join a subsequent cohort group as space becomes available. In most cases, because of sequencing requirements, a Withdrawal will result in inability to continue with the current cohort group but does allow the flexibility to join a subsequent group and successfully complete the program.
If it becomes necessary to withdraw from a required course, it is necessary to withdraw from the entire module. A grade of W is automatically assigned if withdrawal occurs during the first eight weeks of a regular-length semester or during the first four weeks of an eight-week session. After that time, it is necessary to petition to withdraw. If the petition is granted, the student may withdraw and a W will be assigned for the course.
During the last three weeks of a 15-week course, or the last two weeks of an eight-week course, the petition for withdrawal from ALL course work is generally granted; however, if the student is passing at the time of the request, a W may be assigned. If the student is failing at the time of the withdrawal, an F must be assigned.

Maternity/Family Medical Leave/Reduced Course Load
Students may find it necessary to take a leave of absence from the Evening M.B.A. Program for family or medical reasons. Students may take leave for a maximum of three semesters (including summer). Time off for approved medical/maternity leave will not count toward the total time allowed to complete degree requirements (five years). With approval, students may be allowed to take classes at a slower rate but continue with the program. Students who find themselves in circumstances that would warrant a leave or reduced course load should meet with a graduate advisor as soon as possible to design a program of study that will meet their needs.
Due to the cohort structure, students on approved maternity or medical leave must drop out of their cohorts and join a subsequent cohort group when they return from leave. Students who take a reduced course load will be allowed to stay in their cohort group for the first semester of reduced load but must subsequently change to a new group as dictated by their plan of study.

Course Work Taken Outside of the Kelley School of Business
Elective Credit
In order to receive credit for the elective course work, approval must be received from the chairperson of the M.B.A. Program before enrolling in the course. Elective course work taken outside of the Kelley School of Business is limited to a total of 6 credit hours.

Residence Requirement and Statute of Limitations
Of the 51 credit hours required to complete the M.B.A. degree, at least 45 hours of graduate credit must be obtained in-residence. The residency requirement is met while a student is officially admitted and enrolled as an M.B.A. student in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Bloomington/ Indianapolis. Credit hours earned while enrolled in another degree-granting program cannot be included in the 45 credit hours required in-residence.
Deviations from program requirements, such as a waiver of required courses or substitutions of courses taken at other institutions, shall not be final until approved in writing by the chairperson of the M.B.A. Program or an authorized representative.
Students are required to complete their degree within five years of date of matriculation into the program.

Enrolling in Course Work in the Kelley Direct Online M.B.A. Program
Enrolling in Course Work in the Kelley Direct Online M.B.A. Program
On an occasional basis, Evening M.B.A. students may be granted permission to take a course from the Kelley Direct Online Program. Students must receive permission from both programs to take Kelley Direct courses. Students who are granted this permission will pay the Kelley Direct tuition rate for any Kelley Direct courses taken as well as appropriate Kelley Direct fees.

Permanent Transfer to the Kelley Direct Online M.B.A. Program
Students may, with permission from the Kelley Direct Online and Evening M.B.A. Programs, permanently transfer to the Kelley Direct Program for compelling professional reasons (permanent transfer to a location outside of the Indianapolis area, long-term job assignment overseas, etc.).
To be eligible for permanent transfer, students must be in good academic standing and will be required to meet the prerequisites, sequencing requirements, and graduation requirements for the Kelley Direct Online Program. Students who transfer to the Kelley Direct Program will pay the Kelley Direct tuition rate as well as appropriate Kelley Direct fees. Students who seek permanent transfer to Kelley Direct should contact the M.B.A. office as soon as possible at (317) 274-4895.

Enrolling in Course Work in Bloomington
M.B.A. students in Indianapolis may enroll in elective courses offered by the Kelley School of Business on the Bloomington campus.
To enroll in Bloomington courses, the M.B.A. student should first contact the Indianapolis Graduate Office and secure permission from the academic advisor to register for specific course work in Bloomington. The Bloomington Schedule of Classes is available in the graduate office for review or online through INSITE. Permission from the advisor indicates only that the Indianapolis graduate office has approved the course selection and does not guarantee that space will be available in the course.
It is necessary for the student to initiate registration through the Bloomington campus by contacting the Bloomington M.B.A. office well in advance of the registration period. It is also the student's responsibility to be aware of registration dates, fee payment, and schedule adjustment procedures for the Bloomington campus.

M.B.A./J.D. Joint Degree Program
M.B.A./J.D. Joint Degree Program
A four-year program leading to a joint M.B.A. and J.D. degree is offered principally for those who have not had prior business training and want to combine study in the two disciplines. Although there is not a defined market for those persons earning the joint degree, those who enter the program often seek to practice in law involving business clients, in a corporate law department, or in a government agency regulating business. Graduates may enter a variety of positions in areas such as banking, investment banking, and management consulting.
Candidates must meet the admission criteria of each school and be separately admitted by each. Completed application documentation, including the GMAT and LSAT examinations, is required for each school. Candidates may be admitted to graduate programs in the Kelley School of Business in either August or January and to the School of Law-Indianapolis in August. Both the School of Law-Indianapolis and the Kelley School of Business are highly regarded professional programs. As such, each semester more applicants seek admission to each program than there are spaces available in each school.
The M.B.A./J.D. degree requires four years of full-time study instead of the five years that would be required if the two degrees were to be earned separately. The program requires 80 credit hours at the School of Law—Indianapolis and 39 credit hours in the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis for graduation. Non-joint study requires 90 credit hours at the School of Law—Indianapolis, while the M.B.A. requires 51 credit hours in the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis. Summer school during the first two summers of the joint program is encouraged to help the M.B.A./J.D. student attain increased credit hours and ease potential scheduling conflicts that may arise when scheduling course work in two different professional schools.
Typically, students spend the first year in full-time study in the School of Law—Indianapolis and then begin integrating their course work with the Kelley School of Business course work in the second year. In order to be granted the M.B.A. and the J.D. degree as a joint student, the requirements for both degrees must be completed before either can be conferred. Both degrees must be conferred concurrently.
Grade point averages in the Kelley School of Business and the School of Law—Indianapolis are computed separately. Continuation in the program requires the student to meet passing requirements in each school. Students failing in one school, but passing requirements in the other, may complete the degree in that school. Such completion must be upon the same conditions (credit hours, residency, etc.) as required of "regular" (non-joint program) degree candidates.
Transfer Credit Return to Joint Degree Programs
M.B.A./M.D. Joint Degree Program
The Indiana University M.B.A./M.D. Joint Degree Program is a program that allows for the concurrent study of medicine and graduate business course work. The program is jointly administered by the IU Kelley School of Business and the IU School of Medicine.
The joint program consists of a mixture of required and elective courses, which provides students with a core of knowledge about the two professions and the flexibility to take courses that meet their goals for specialization.
Candidates must meet the admissions and prerequisite criteria of each school and be separately admitted by each. Candidates must be admitted to the School of Medicine in August of their first year and to the Kelley School of Business no later than January of their third year to begin their M.B.A. program in the summer of their fourth year. Applications must be submitted to each school in addition to completion of the Medical College Admission Test and Graduate Management Admission Test examinations. Both the School of Medicine and the Kelley School of Business are highly regarded professional programs. As such, each semester more applicants seek admission to each program than there are spaces available in each school.
As part of the application procedure for the M.B.A./M.D. Joint Degree Program, the interested candidate should contact the School of Medicine and the Kelley School of Business to obtain applications and pre-admission advising for each program. Included in the information for each program will be information on prerequisites, deadlines, and application checklists. Because prerequisite requirements and competitive standards are not waived for applicants to the joint program, it is to the benefit of the potential applicant to fully understand the application, admission procedures, and criteria for both schools.
In order to be eligible for consideration for admission to the M.B.A./M.D. program, applicants must apply, be admitted, and begin taking course work in the School of Medicine. The M.B.A. program will start at the beginning of the fourth year.
The M.B.A./M.D. degree requires five years of full-time study instead of the minimum six years that would be required if the two degrees were to be earned separately. The program requires four years at the School of Medicine and 40.5 credit hours at the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis for graduation. Non-joint study requires four years at the School of Medicine, while the M.B.A. requires 51 credit hours (usually 32 months part time) at the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis. Typically, students spend three years of full-time study in the School of Medicine and then begin integrating their course work with the Kelley School of Business course work in the fourth year. The degrees are conferred simultaneously when all requirements for graduation for the joint degree have been met in each professional program. Joint students who choose not to have the degrees conferred concurrently must meet the program requirements for each program as if they were a non-joint student.
Students who are dismissed or withdraw from one program, may continue and complete the other program as long as they meet the minimum standards in that school.
During the fourth and fifth years in the School of Medicine, aside from meeting Step 2 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) requirements, M.B.A./M.D. students have considerable freedom to plan their course work according to their professional goals. By combining electives in the medical school that are parallel or compatible with the M.B.A. program, students are able to plan a course of study that offers a true synthesis of business-medical issues. These planned electives, combined with the required core courses, provide the students with the preparation to deal with the complex problems and issues faced in today's business-medical environment.
Transfer Credit Return to Joint Degree Programs
M.B.A./M.H.A. Joint Degree Program
A joint degree combining the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Health Administration is now available to students on the IUPUI campus. The program is jointly administered by the IU Kelley School of Business and the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Candidates must meet the admission criteria of each school and be separately admitted by each. Candidates may be admitted to the Kelley School of Business in either August or January and to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs in August.
The M.B.A./M.H.A. requires three years of full-time study instead of the five years that would be required if the two degrees were to be earned separately. This joint program requires 39 credit hours of M.B.A. course work and 39 credit hours of M.H.A. course work.
Students are required to follow the program requirements and policies set forth for each program by its respective faculty. Each school has a student handbook that sets forth the program requirements and policies. In order to be granted the M.B.A. and the M.H.A. degree as a joint student, the requirements for both degrees must be completed before either can be conferred. Both degrees must be conferred concurrently.
Grade point averages in the Kelley School of Business and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs are computed separately. Continuation in the program requires students to meet passing requirements in each school.
