IUPUI Libraries

IUPUI has five distinct libraries that work together to support thousands of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; faculty; and the broader community. The combined collections of the libraries on the IUPUI campus contain over 1.2 million volumes and over 80,000 electronic serial titles. IUCAT, the IU libraries catalog system, is available at all campus libraries and online. An interlibrary loan service connects the IUPUI libraries with universities and libraries throughout the state and country, and most requests for articles are filled within 72 hours.

On the IUPUI campus, students and researchers have access to the Ruth Lilly Law Library at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and the Indiana University School of Dentistry Library. The University Library, located in the center of the campus, supports course work and faculty and student research and covers a wide range of academic disciplines, from liberal arts to science, engineering, and technology. The University Library houses the nationally recognized Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library and the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives. Additionally, the Herron School of Art and Design Library is a full service branch of the University Library located in Eskenazi Hall.

A leader among academic libraries, the IUPUI University Library offers the campus and community technologically advanced services such as rich media technology, PC/MAC specialized software, librarian chat, live tech assistance, as well as specialized instructional space, such as our new 2120 Learning Lab.  The library focuses on leveraging technology to support student success with more than 30 full-time faculty librarians, plus programs in information literacy and digital scholarship.  With 2,500,000 database downloads each year, the library’s resources are always available to students. The library is the primary informal learning space on campus, and just completed a contemporary environment for individual and group study on the 4th floor of the building called Learning Spaces III. A Rich Media area also on the 4th floor offers tools to produce high-end multimedia projects in a collaborative environment.

The University Library is open an average of 100 hours each week during regular semesters. The law, medical, dental, and art libraries each set hours independently to meet the needs of IUPUI students.
